As a lifelong learner, Alicia wakes up every morning at 6am sharp to read the New York Times, play Sudoku, and contemplate Ira Glass’ most recent episode of This American Life while on a run.

God, wouldn’t it be great if I actually did that? So productive—that gal’s going places! In reality, that gal is my mom, who I spend a lot of time writing about. Her, and my dad, and my sister, and all the other fools who stumbled into my life at one point or another only to be told they weren’t permitted to leave. In addition to being surrounded by a marvelous cast of characters, I tend to fill my days with intentional meandering aimed at trying to understand how our world works.

I process it all by piecing together words that give shape to thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I live for the moment someone reads what I’ve written and says, “Ah, yes. That’s it.” I love love, and love exploring the different shapes it takes in different people. And I think most things are funny, including you. Mostly you, actually.

Outside of “work,” I can be found skiing the Sawtooth mountains, obsessing over my dog, Orwell, and sitting around the campfire with my friends and family; people who make my life so full and my job so dang easy.
